Thanks for joining the BMM Book Club! I’m so excited 😆!
IG only allows for a max of 32 people in a group so I have you all broken up into two groups. This will also keep the notifications to a min. When we come together for our zoom meets we will combine. (I absolutely hate Facebook so I’m going to try my best to keep it on IG lol!) I understand we’re busy women and respect that therefore; I want to keep this as an enjoyable experience. That being said when you can participate you can, and when you can’t you can’t...just hop back in when you’re available! It’ll be an open dialogue throughout the month (down in the DMs lol) and then we’ll come together for something more formal once a month (via zoom).
Let’s get started! 🤗❤️
Our first book selection will come from the fiction group! I think it’ll be perfect for the holiday downtime we may get! You’ll need to vote on which gets you excited the most!
The Water Dancer by Ta-Nehisi Coates. A surrealist story set in the pre–Civil War South, concerning a superhuman protagonist named Hiram Walker who possesses photographic memory, but who cannot remember his mother, and is able to transport people over long distances by using a power known as "conduction" which can fold the Earth like fabric and allows him to travel across large areas via waterways.
Black Leopard, Red Wolf by writer Marlon James. The novel draws on African history and mythology, blended into the landscape of the North Kingdom and the South Kingdom, and the political tensions between these two warring states, as well as various city-states and tribes in the surrounding landscape. The rights to produce a film adaptation were purchased by Michael B. Jordan.
Deacon King Kong by James McBride. In September 1969, a fumbling, cranky old church deacon known as Sportcoat shuffles into the courtyard of the Cause Houses housing project in south Brooklyn, pulls a .38 from his pocket, and in front of everybody shoots the project's drug dealer at point-blank range.
